Money reality check

1. Money is not mysterious and managing it is not magic.

2. You can only spend it once.

3. If you put money in a poker machine, ultimately, you will lose.

4. On a similar note, if you drive 16 kilometres to buy a lottery ticket, you are three times more likely to be killed in a car accident while driving to buy the ticket than you are to win the jackpot.

5. You are more likely to develop elephantiasis than to get rich via an inheritance from a long lost distant relative or instant rock star fame.

6. Failing to plan really is planning to fail.

7. You insure your house, your car and even your fridge but only 6% of Australians insure their biggest asset – their capacity to earn – with income protection insurance. It’s not rocket science.

8. Last year, the average wedding cost $49,202. This is just f*cking stupid.

9. Your retirement will not take care of itself (and, gals, some man won’t take care of it for you – he’s more likely to leave you for a 22-year-old once he finishes working).

10. People have more fantasies about money than sex. What does that tell you?
